What can you say? Some of her performances are pretty well unparalleled.īut I was really wondering more about Simone's drinking so much, thinking of Billie Holiday and some others. Took me a little while to warm up to her but now I listen to her a lot.
Technically she is really great and her stuff is very good. What is 'bi' in this context? Hiromi hs really grown on me. One of my piano teachers was a student/teaching assistant of Rosina, and she told me that Rosina would not permit her to wear her glasses when playing. Interesting that in her eighties she performed the Chopin E minor concerto with James Levine (I think) and gave what he said was probably the best performance of that work ever in Carnegie Hal (or wherever it was). One, I forget her name, was the darling of the composers, their muse and who delivered what Stravinsky thought was the perfect rendition of one of his compositions.
There were a number of great female pianists, some of whom were especially good. She married Josef Lhevinne and resolved thereupon never to concertize solo again. The story of Rosina Lhevinne is really something.
